Programs in this area develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills.
3 on 3 Teen Basketball
Youth ages 13 and up will be encouraged to form teams of three to compete in a series of double-elimination tournaments. The winning team will be rewarded with prizes!
Triple Play
Triple Play addresses three areas: Mind, Body and Soul. Triple Play - Healthy Habits focuses on the "Mind" Component, encouraging youth to make healthy choices with their meals and snacks. Triple Play - Daily Challenges focuses on the "Body" component, encouraging youth to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical fitness and activity every day. Daily challenges are designed for youth with all levels of athleticism, from beginner to advanced. Youth increase their heart rate and respiration, improve endurance and stamina, and become more skilled with fine and gross motor movements. Triple Play - Social Recreation focuses on the "Soul" Component in the Games Room (the soul of the Boys & Girls Clubs!), where youth learn positive social interaction and conflict resolution skills.
Judo
Judo is an Olympic sport that primarily involves throwing and/or pinning an opponent to the ground. It develops physical skills (i.e. balance, coordination, strength), mental skills (i.e. discipline, perseverance) and character (i.e. self esteem, honesty, compassion).
Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, sports and music. It is known by quick and complex moves, using mainly power kicks and quick leg sweeps, with some ground and aerial acrobatics, knee strikes, elbow strikes and punches.
Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii Basketball League
The BGCH Basketball League will feature teams from each of the 5 Oahu sites, traveling to compete against each other and earn the title. The program is for youth of all skill levels, with three age divisions (7-9, 10-12 and 13-17). The season runs from January 9th to March 31st. Practice times as follows:
Beginning League - Mon/Wed/Fri 4:30-5:30pm
Intermediate League - Tues/Wed/Thurs 4:30-6:00pm
Teen League - Tues/Wed/Thurs 6:00-7:30pm
Games on Saturday Mornings (Schedule TBA)
