Programs in this Core Program Area enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.

Money Matters

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13-18 by building their basic money management skills. Through a local partnership with representatives at Charles Schwab, participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. They also learn about starting small businesses and paying for college.

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count

Each day in the club starts with Power Hour, helping members become more successful in school by providing direct homework help and promoting students to become self-directed learners. Regular participants earn points that are deposited into the “Power Bank,” a program that promotes financial literacy, and can later withdraw points for prizes.

Career Launch

This fun and exciting program prepares teens for the working world through group discussions and projects, interactions with local professionals and excursions to a variety of job sites.  Club teens 13-17 years old embark on a journey to explore careers, make sound educational decisions and find success in the world of work.

Project Learn

Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school during the hours they spend at the Club. Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities, which include leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help and tutoring and games like Scrabble that develop young people's cognitive skills. Project Learn also emphasizes parent involvement and collaboration between Club and school professionals as critical factors in creating the best after-school learning environment for Club members ages 7-17.
ReaDch

ReaDch is a read-aloud, read-along program designed to increase confidence in reading skills.  Created with a no-pressure environment, children are encouraged to simply read along silently with the program leader and only read aloud if they choose to.  The books that are chosen are all non-fiction to increase knowledge in technology, natural and life sciences.  Youth learn about interesting topics such as civil war submarines, unique animals in faraway locations and biographical stories of true heroes.
