Programs in this area develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
SMART Moves
The SMART (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) Moves program is a nationally acclaimed prevention program originally developed in the 1980s with help from prevention specialists and Clubs around the country. Newly revised in 2011, the program incorporates the latest information and approaches that BGCA has learned about effective prevention. Participants will be exposed to various activities designed to hone their decision-making and critical-thinking skills, as well as learn how to avoid and/or resist alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and premature sexual activity. There are four different levels of the SMART Moves Program: SMART Kids (ages 7-9), Start SMART (ages 10-12), Stay SMART (ages 13-15) and SMART Leaders, for youth who have completed the first three levels and want to serve as role models for their younger peers.

Girl Power & Girls for Change
Girl Power (ages 7-12) and Girls for Change (ages 13-17) are designed to empower young girls to make positive life decisions, healthy choices and to broaden their world view for career choices. Through integration of volunteers and successful women in our community, hands-on engaging activities, and service learning projects, girls in the club are given a safe place to explore their options and interests with other girls and strong female role models.

Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility in Club boys ages 11-14. Passport to Manhood consists of 14 sessions, each of which concentrates on a specific aspect of manhood through highly interactive activities. Each Club participant receives his own “passport” to underscore the notion that he is on a personal journey of maturation and growth. Passport to Manhood represents a targeted effort to engage young boys in discussions activities that reinforce positive behavior.
